Video Pick from the Sock Pile

What makes you different?

Everyone is unique, but sometimes its our differences that can make us feel lonely, isolated, invisible and sad.  Here at Misfit University, we learn to explore all those feeling and find empowerment through stories and projects, and, of course, from misfit socks.

How can misfit socks teach the world about bullying?

Think about it. A misfit sock is a sock that has lost its match during the laundry cycle.  Through no fault of its own, it is immediately labeled " a misfit" and marginalized. Sound familiar?  Have you every been "labeled" --rejected--and marginalized because of your differences?

The Misfit Sock, is a profoundly magical story of a misfit sock that loses its perfect match in the laundry cycle. Immediately labeled “a misfit” and considered not wearable anymore, it is cast into the dreaded misfit sock pile and forgotten. It lays there for months, eventually falling off the pile and landing on floor. Invisible, lonely and forgotten, the sock is about to lose all hope, believing it will never be loved or happy again, until it meets the magnificent spirit of the Christmas season. Then, it is filled with hope, purpose and inspiration. That inspiration is contagious and it fills the other misfit socks with a purpose, too. The misfit socks eventually find their way into the hearts of every girl and boy, because in a hug only a child could realize that a misfit sock is a treasure and the perfect sock to thank Santa, his elves and reindeer.

Although this story is a Christmas tale, the lessons live on in every day life.  Through this story, children realize that they are all treasures, that each child , although different, has a purpose and deserves to be loved and accepted.
