Walking Water Socks

Grab your Misfit Strong Journal.  This is what you'll need for the experiment.

Supplies:

  • water

  • containers

  • white socks/ or a light color** white works best.

  • Kool Aid (lemon lime, cherry and blue raspberry)

  • vinegar

  • baking soda

Directions:  Mix 1 cup of water, 1/4 cup of distilled white vinegar, 2 tablespoons of baking soda and one Kool Aid packet.  Expect the baking soda and vinegar to react, of course, and wait for the fizzing to stop.  Repeat this step for as many colors as you'd like to use.

Drape the socks over the containers with only a small part of fabric touching the liquid mixture.  Use another container per each sock to contain all of the liquid as the water "walks".

How long do you think it will take to completely change the color of the sock? Record guesses in your journal.

WATCH the colored water as it walks up the sock.

Once the socks are fully dyed, you can hang them up to dry and then hang them on your TREE in the Misfit Sock Forest.
