Lessons

The MISFIT MANNERS program, for ages 3 to 7 years old, is a creative catalyst for the practice of KINDNESS and RESPECTthrough words, actions and, misfit socks.

This SIX-LESSON program is  combined with a storybook reading and craft.  Additionally, children receive a MISFIT MANNERS 25 page journal to use during each lesson. The journaling practice at such a young age helps kids use words and images to hep them become more aware of the world around them and how their words and actions can make a difference in their lives and the lives of others. Once the journal is complete, a child receives a sticker and a certificate.

Lesson One: BE KIND TO YOU

Children put on misfit socks and sit together in a circle. Start a conversation about how each child is different, just like their socks. That being who they are and not being afraid to show the big world who they are is the best way to love themselves.

Standing out from the crowd is a good thing. Making eye contact, shaking hands, offering gratitude and more. MANNERS MATTER.

"There's no one in the whole world exactly like YOU. Think about that. YOU are so very special, DIFFERENT in so many ways, and you need to take care of the treasure that you are.

BE KIND TO YOU, so you can learn to be kind to others, too.

Begin the lesson by picking a book from our MISFIT MANNERS Bookshelf. Click each book and decide which book you are interested in reading. You can get these books at your local or school library or purchase online.

Many of these books are also read by the authors on YouTube.

Once you've finished reading the book, have a discussion about what they like about themselves and what makes each one of them  different. Pull out the JOURNALS.

JOURNAL

On the first page, draw a picture of something that you like about yourself.  Maybe it's your hair, your laugh or the way you sing.

Ask a few students to share their pictures.

Then begin a discussion on what it means to be nice to yourself? Start by asking them to draw something that makes them happy?  For example, hanging out with their cat, Snuggles.
